What does Senior Living offer?
Chances are, we all know a family member, neighbor or friend who is 55+ and may need assistance with activities of daily living. Their quality of life may be diminished by physical or mental frailties which clearly do not warrant nursing home placement. During the past several decades, an alternative has evolved within the health care continuum – Senior Living.
A significant segment of our population, professionals and lay persons alike, know little about this alternative. “If Grandma can’t stay in her home, she’ll have to go into a nursing home.” How many times has this statement been made? Senior living provides an intermediate option.
Licensed, inspected and monitored by State officials, these communities provide a basic level of care such as room and board, social and recreational opportunities, around-the-clock staffing, and supervision of self-administered medications.
The State provides specific limitations on the functional abilities of persons residing in senior living communities; therefore, it is important to note that these communities may not be appropriate for everyone.
